Why should you join the Friends of Monteverdi?

As you can imagine, the current economic climate has created additional problems for arts organisations everywhere.  Ticket sales, even in a large concert hall, do not meet the full costs of a performance, and many promoters all over Europe are unable to offer the fees we need to cover our expenses.  This leaves us increasingly dependent on private funding.  Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra Ltd is a registered charity and our individual and corporate supporters play a vital part in our organisation. It is only thanks to them that we are able to maintain our uncompromising commitment to excellence.

How you can help...

Our Friends and supporters have helped us to:

  • give outstanding concerts in London and worldwide

  • engage with initiatives such as Buskaid, enabling Soweto teenagers to perform at the BBC Proms

  • realise projects such as the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage of 2000, with its series of live recordings, currently being released on the Soli Deo Gloria label

  • work with children and teachers in Tower Hamlets to introduce young people to classical music

You can become involved with the Monteverdi ensembles at many levels and in different ways according to your own musical interests. You will be able to build up an individual relationship with us, getting to know the performers and members of the Monteverdi management team as well as other supporters, and will find yourself part of an international group of people with a common passion.

Malcolm Bilson"The six years I spent playing and recording the Mozart piano concertos with John Eliot Gardiner were a great high point in my life. He is passionate about music and his knowledge of performance practice is vast; in addition he has simply the best ears I have ever encountered. Working with him and the orchestra was exhilarating, and in spite of the fact that our set of the Mozart concertos was the first on original instruments, it still sells some 20 years later and has clearly become the standard in the genre, as have so many of John Eliot's recorded series. I can only encourage you to pledge support for the projects of this extraordinary team."
