John Eliot Gardiner with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic

John Eliot Gardiner continues his guest conducting engagements in 2016 spending two weeks in May and June with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic.

On 12-13 May, Gardiner conducted the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in a programme of Brahms, Mendelssohn and Schumann, with renowned soloists Isabelle Faust and Kristian Bezuidenhout.

Peter Korfmacher, Leipziger Volkzeitung

John Eliot Gardiner returns to Leipzig with the Monteverdi Choir in September to perform Mendelssohn's "Lobgesang" with the Gewandhaus Orchestra. We also look forward to welcoming Kristian Bezuidenhout to join the ORR tour of Brahms, Beethoven and Schubert in November.

From 2-4 June, Gardiner led the Berlin Philharmonic in performances of Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex and Apollon Musagete. Described by the Berliner Zeitung as:

A “spectacularly perfect performance” of Stravinsky’s operatic oratorio Oedipus Rex, which also proved how “with a conductor whose roots lie in the interpretation of early music, Stravinsky’s neoclassicism is in very good hands”.

Philipp Kohl, Berliner Zeitung

Sybill Mahlke, Tagesspiegel
