Bach: A Passionate Life wins Best Documentary at international festival

We are delighted to hear that Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s recent documentary on Bach is being awarded the prestigious Best Documentary Czech Crystal at the 50th Golden Prague International Television Festival 2013.

Golden Prague ITF presents two coveted Czech Crystal awards at their yearly festival, which presents the world’s best music and dance programmes and films in all genres. The awards, which are adjudicated by an international panel of experts, are judged principally on their ‘artistic quality’.

Golden Prague write, 'This film tells the story of one of the greatest composers seen through the eyes of one of his foremost interpreter. Through inspired performance, wonderful location shooting and previously unknown biographic detail we get closer to the genius of J. S. Bach.'

In the same week as Sir John Eliot Gardiner collected the Monteverdi Choir’s Baroque Vocal Gramophone Award he was named Critics’ Circle Outstanding Musician for 2013.

This is the third year of the prestigious Critics’ Circle music section awards, voted for by members of the British press, and Gardiner joins previous recipients Oliver Knussen and Daniel Barenboim.
