Sir John Eliot Gardiner wins Critics' Circle award

Sir John Eliot Gardiner has been named Critics' Circle Outstanding Musician for 2013.

The news came shortly before he collected the Monteverdi Choir's Baroque Vocal Gramophone Award at a ceremony held at LSO St Luke's, capping a succesful year for the conductor.

This is the third year of the prestigious Critics' Circle music section awards, voted for by members of the British press, and Gardiner joins previous recipients Oliver Knussen and Daniel Barenboim.
