Gramophone 70th Birthday Issue

Gramophone says:

"What a year Sir John Eliot has had! In the concert-hall he’s continued his long service to the music of Bach (with his Bach Marathon to an audience of over 3000 at the Royal Albert Hall) and at the Aldeburgh Festival and on disc with a glorious disc of Bach’s motets and the final volume in his Bach Cantata Pilgrimage. He’s returned to Beethoven, with a shattering disc of the Fifth and Seventh Symphonies, and on top of that he made his debut with Leipzig’s great Gewandhausorchester… All proof that in the year he turned 70, conductors only get better with age."

The Artist of the Year prize will be awarded by the public in September.
