Before embarking on the European tour, the Apprentices had the opportunity to attend an intimate rehearal, directed by Sir John Eliot Gardiner. At this session John Eliot Gardiner was able to share his passion and enthusiasm of his favourite piece of music: Bach's B Minor Mass.

“B Minor Mass is an omnium gatherum of music in different periods of Bach's life. It's the catholic mass written by a protestant composer, it's got drama, incredible vitality, euphoria, sadness, everything!

The apprentices joined the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists on a tour at Philharmonie im Gasteig, Munich, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, KKL Lucerne in Switzerland, Grand Théâtre de Provence, Aix-en-Provence and Philharmonie de Paris, Paris performing Bach’s B Minor Mass.

The tour received overwhelming support with München Musik claiming that the standing ovation at the end of the performance at Philharmonie im Gasteig as the high point of their season. A moving performance at Alte Oper in Frankfurt was dedicated to the victims of the Germanwings plane crash.

On return to the UK, a number of the apprentices were involved in a recording of B Minor Mass that took place at LSO St Lukes on Saturday 28 March. The recording of the B Minor mass, featuring some of our Apprentices will be available to purchase in October 2015 from our record label Soli Deo Gloria.
